Sanctuary
My theme for sanctuary is based on religion. My main focus is on a Sikh Gurdwara in Hounslow where it represents the religion inside out and also signfies peace and safety. I have chosen religion as a theme because I feel so close to it and it relates to myself where it signifies one person's Identity. For this I spent most of my time going out to visit the Gurdwara and getting many different angle views. It was hard for me to get a perfect view and angle as the Gurdwara itself was big. I took many photographs from different views so that when it comes to the exam I can choose the images that will perfectly go with my final piece. One thing that I was trying my best to do is the side shots of the building itself and it was hard for me to take these shots as there was a lot of buildings near where i stood and above my head were large building. What I actually like about the photographs was the front view of the building, you can see the colours and the effects that are used and how it all represents a religious Sikh person's identity. Below are my photographs that I chose to use to create an identity for my final piece.

I decided with these photographs to create an identity in the exam as I feel that this building relates to identity. I will use different areas of these photographs to present a religious person who visit's the temple. I am trying to signfies that a temple brings one identity, a person who truley believes in religion themself's. And that a temple is like a home where everyone visits to worship. It's a true inner believing. I myself visit this temple as often as I can because its represents me as I am a sikh person and I believe in god myself.

To start my identity off I chose this photograph of a front view of the temple. I chose this because I believe that the entrance of the temple is an entrance to someone's identity. I used the entrance of the little doors for the mouth to represent inside a person. And the top of the entrance there is a little balcony which i felt could be useful for the nose as you can see in my final piece.

For this photograph I didn't really use much  of it as I felt there was not much of a feel for a face of the identity. But I did use the bottom parts for the turban.

I  used this photograph the most. This is because the use of shades and the windows helped me to create the face. The brick layers on the temple I cut out in photoshop to create the skin colour. But I felt that for an identity it doesn't matter what colour skin you are it just matters about what type of person you are. The windows for me represented the eyes but I used them for the eye inside but the actual eye ball as you will see in the photography below I took out from the bottom of the building.

This is part of the side view of the temple. For this photograph I decided to use the bottom parts to create sikh person's turban. The turban represents a sikh person's identity of who they are. People who wear turban's are committed to their religion and visit this temple everyday. But its not necessary that everyone who wears a turban visits the temple all the time.

Final identity

This is my final identity that I created in the exam representing a religious person. What I did is using the photographs of the temple I took different parts out and created a sikh man wearing a turban who visits this temple. The turban signfies his identity of a religious person who is committed and wants to represent to other people who he is and how proud he is.

I used photoshop in order to cut out bits of the temple to create this identity. I looked at the different shades in order to give this identity a feel of a cultural person. At the beginning I was going to present my work on a A5 cardboard paper but I thought this will take time and there will be no feel to the identity of what I am trying to say. So I thought the best thing is to create the identity on photoshop as this will be more creative and will not take up most of the exam time. As you can see by looking at this image now that I have took out bits of the temple, but I did not use all parts of the temple as this was not necessary for me as the identity I have created is used from the important areas of the temple.

Overall when I was working on this final piece it did take time to cut out pieces and getting them into shape in order to form a cultural person. I had to use different tools on photoshop to get the exact shape that I wanted. I had planned out what type of person I was going to create and what major parts of the temple I will use. This gave me ideas on the final piece of how it will end.
Looking at the final piece to me it suggests a religious person who you would see at this temple. I did not expect some parts of the final piece to look like that but I'd say it did go well and I could of improved it more if I wanted a more creative look. These photographs have helped me a lot and if I did not choose these then I would of not created a good final piece and would not of had a clue what I would of been creating.

This all fits into Sanctuary as religion itself presents one's identity,For example as you can see the temple is where everyone worships god. And the temple itself is a peaceful place to pray.
